What if there were a Community Psalm Sing in the Fall as part of the Thanksgiving season? And what if it were also an occasion when candidates or would-be candidates for local political office could introduce themselves to the citizen voters? This is what we are seeking to organize long term. The psalm sing would be scheduled around the end of October.
Each church group from among various area churches would be asked to lead in one selection from the Bible’s book of Psalms. The church group would sing a few stanzas on the song selection, and then the community attenders would join in for the remaining stanzas of the song selection. Each church group would be responsible for providing a sheet to community attenders that included information about their church, as well as the song being sung.
The venue of the event could be in one of the larger area churches in Georgetown Township, or else in the Fine Arts Auditorium of Jenison Public Schools. Candidates or would-be candidates for local political office could meet attenders in the foyer area before and after the sing, and pass out brochures about themselves.
